October was a fun month! We began by discussing different types of homes people live in. Learning about inventions was a highlight. We discussed the importance of the television, telephone and automobile. We talked about how life was so different without these things and what people used before these inventions were available. During the third week we observed the changes fall has brought. We had fun painting leaves, fall trees and pumpkins. At our science center we observed pinecones and a variety of nuts. We learned about feelings and emotions and at the end of the month we made spooky decorations for Halloween.
We will begin the month of November learning about various forms of homes people live in. transportation and why they are so important in our daily lives. We will discuss weather and the many changes it brings throughout the year. We'll have fun doing lots of science experiments to learn about the water cycle and how wind blows. The last two weeks will be dedicated to Thanksgiving and we'll discuss what we are thankful for. We will focus on the role the Pilgrims and the Native Americans played during the first Thanksgiving.
The children are doing a great job following classroom rules and routines. They are getting a lot of practice writing their names. We are currently working on the number 3 and letter D. Please reinforce the numbers and letters along with the sounds at home. We're learning so many fun songs and poems to help them learn concepts including the 7 days of the week, months of the year and continents. Their favorites are the Number Rock song and reciting our monthly "Chicken Soup with Rice" poem.
We have a new behavior chart, "On the Road to Good Behavior". Each child has a car on a road. Each day all the children will start at the end of the road on green. If they follow the rules their car will stay on green and at lunchtime they will receive a sticker, stamp or treasure chest toy. If they break a rule they will start losing gas and be moved back to yellow and then to red. Yellow = Warning, Red = 5 minute time-out, Gas Station = No more gas!! - Teacher Corinne's office and note to parents. Feel free to check our behavior chart daily.
Remember share day is on Wednesday. Every Tuesday and Friday will be our science days. Feel free to explore our center with your child. We have plants, earthworms, dragonflies and a turtle.
HAVE A GREAT THANKSGIVING!

October was such a busy month. Our Red Group enjoyed making various inventions such as the telephone, light bulb and radio. We enjoyed painting and pretending to talk on the phone. We also talked about how life would be different without these inventions. The Red Group also enjoyed making houses with our addresses. During feelings and emotions week we talked about what makes you happy, mad and sad. The kids really had fun with this one. Feel free to stop by our classroom and see our comments on red, yellow and blue paper - they are very cute! We also made pumpkins, ghosts, cats and bats. Our classroom is turning into an Autumn and Halloween fun room and the children love it.
November will also be a fun month with activities relating to our weekly themes; Transportation, Weather, Thanksgiving and People Around The World. We will be having a Thanksgiving food exchange with our friends in the Toddler room.
Please feel free to stop by our apple tree to see how your child is doing with behavior. I am so proud of all the children in the Red Group, they are doing GREAT!
HAVE A WONDERFUL THANKSGIVING!

October was a lot of fun! The toddlers focused on recognizing the colors black, orange and white while making Halloween crafts. We painted in orange, made black playdough and enjoyed scaring each other with a few white ghosts. During Fall week we talked about the color changes in trees and plants as well as the change in weather. Some fun songs learned this month were "If You're Happy and You Know It" and following directions and being kind to our friends. Everyone is doing great!
During November we will continue working on counting with our topics of Transportation, Weather Changes, Thanksgiving and People Around the World. Early in November the Santa Maria Public Librarian will come in to read to us and during Thanksgiving we will have a food exchange along with singing and dancing with the Red group.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
