What a wonderful month January was. We had fun using our five senses, especially the sense of taste! Tasting sour & sweet pickles and eating yummy cookies tickled our senses. During the week of Martin Luther King, Jr., we learned about the meaning of peace and friendship by creating a circle of friends and a we are the world collage. We discussed what acts of kindness are and the importance of being a good person.
Fairy Tales & Nursery Rhymes are two fun themes. We read folk tales and learned about what rhyming words are. Reinforce rhyming words with your child while at home or in the car. Ask your child do cat and bat rhyme etc. The children got a kick out of watching a boiled egg and a raw egg sit on a wall of blocks and then fall while reciting Humpty Dumpty. We also observed how a boiled egg continues spinning after being stopped and how a raw egg stops after being tapped.
During February our Valentine's fun week will be filled with stories about the meaning of love and kindness, heart-filled crafts, fun games and yummy treats. Each day will be a little party! We will be making Valentine bags that will stay at school through the 14th. Feel free to bring in Valentine cards or treats for your child's group on any day during the week of Feb. 6th.
During the week of February 13th, the children will learn who our President is and what the president's role is. We'll learn where he resides and the importance of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. We will then go into prehistoric times and learn some facts about dinosaurs. We will discuss why we think they disappeared and what we think our world would be like if dinosaurs were alive right now.
The end of the month will be dedicated to Dr. Seuss. We will read wonderful stories, create crafts and celebrate his birthday by eating yummy green eggs and ham for snack! We welcome family members to come in and read a story to the kids. Talk to Corinne or one of the teachers to schedule a day and time.
We have currently worked through to the letter M and the number 12. Reinforce what we are learning by asking your child to recite zoo phonics or to sing the number rock song. Continue encouraging your child to practice cutting with scissors at home and printing their names. First letter with a capital and the rest of the name in lower case letters.
Have a great Valentine's Day!
